  1. I was out on the streets after only two days in Atlanta. I had absolutely nowhere to go and it was 48° and raining cats and dogs outside. At 4:30pm, the doors opened and I was welcomed in by some God-fearing Christian Brothers. Even though I wasn't from Georgia, they gave me a place to stay for the night and get out of the rain. The staff and disciples here were very respectful and kind to me. I did witness them have attitudes with some others, but only because they were receiving attitude from them. Almost immediately upon arrival we were taken into the kitchen and offered a snack. There was a multitude of varieties of donated foods including many fruits, sweets, and assorted snack items. Yes, some of them may have been outdated, but this is to be expected with donated food. None of the food that I saw was spoiled or bad. After mandatory showers, there was a church service. This service was also mandatory. Dinner was then served with either your choice of chicken Alfredo or beef stew, there were many other items available including sweets and breads. It might not have been the best meal I ever had but it was nourishing and filling. I was then given a mat and allowed to lay down and go to sleep for a total of 8 hours. This is 8 hours that I wasn't outside in the rain and the cold! Instead I was sleeping in a warm room. The mat may not have been the best bed I've ever had, but it certainly was the best bed I had available that night. I want to say thank you to all of the staff and disciples at the Atlanta City Baptist Rescue Mission. You make do and give the best service you can with what you have available. posted March 15, 2023
