About The Dare County Center

The Dare County Center is a multi-generational facility on Roanoke Island that provides resources, programs and activities designed to enhance the lives of Dare County citizens. Conveniently located near the Dare County Administration Building and Justice Center in Manteo, the Dare County Center offers a variety of programs for youth, adults, older adults, and families. There is something for everyone at the Dare County Center including arts & crafts classes, exercise classes, cooking classes, health and wellness programs, trips, health fairs, community potlucks, estate planning, technology classes, tax assistance, Medicare assistance, and much more. The Center features a state of the art fitness room, arts & crafts room, library/electronic media room with computers, kitchen, dining area, multi-purpose room, stage, activity room, and two classrooms. Our Activities Calendar lists a wide range of opportunities to learn, stay fit, and have fun. Stop by, take a tour and let our friendly staff show you everything that is waiting for you at the Dare County Center. Valuable information about Medicare programs is provided by the Adult & Senior Services Department through the Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP). This innovative program created by the North Carolina Department of Insurance offers free counseling about general Medicare issues, insurance for long-term care, and Medicare's prescription drug coverage. The Dare County Center encourages those 55 and older to participate in the Outer Banks Senior Games. Each spring Seniors have fun competing in a wide range of sporting events and artistic performances. Like the Olympics, achievements are recognized with gold, silver, and bronze awards and the privilege of representing Dare County in the statewide North Carolina Senior Games. While the program honors personal and team accomplishments, the emphasis is all about being active and having fun. Nutritious meals are served five days per week at the Dare County Center in partnership with the Albemarle Commission. Meals are served in a group setting giving participants an opportunity for socialization while enjoying a delicious and balanced meal. Many adults use the transportation services provided by the Dare County Transportation Services Department. Round-trip transportation is available, by appointment, for doctor visits, shopping trips and other needs on a scheduled basis Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Volunteer opportunities are always available at the Dare County Center.
