About Senior Citizens Community Center

In the fall of 1978, a group of concerned citizens from Paris, Missouri recognized the need for a Senior Citizen Center and a community-wide effort to promote proper nutrition. Local businesses and people responded to this by forming a steering committee and raised over $3,000. The Paris Jaycee Chapter agreed to serve as the sponsoring agency. The former IGA building was selected to serve as the site and later was renovated through the help of volunteers. Donations for the local community of tables, chairs, and couches furnished the new center. On April 26, 1980, the center hosted its first open house and served its very first community meal to senior citizens. As the positive impact became evident, the scope of services began to include: recreational programming, craft store, social events, advocacy training, wellness programs, in-home outreach, personal care, medical monitoring, and regular community fundraisers. For over three decades, services have continued to benefit both senior citizens and the community at large. Presently, the Senior Center provides congregate hot meals 5 days a week, Monday through Friday, for elderly residents over the age of sixty years old and distributes Meals on Wheels 6 days a week to those in surrounding areas who are home bound.
