About Churches United for the People - CUP Food Pantry

Anyone you lives in Spotswood, East Brunswick, Helmetta or Jamesburg can visit the CUP food pantry once a month to receive 2 bags of groceries of their choosing, (and a $5 ShopRite gift card when available). Due to harsh economic conditions, the pantry has been serving about 217 families per month. This is a significant increase from 40 families just 5 years ago. In special circumstances (such as Hurricane Sandy) families from other communities are given access to the food pantry. To qualify they must show proof of address (usually a drivers license) showing they live in a town that is served by the food pantry. No proof of income is required, and there is no enrollment fee. Food for the pantry is donated by the members of the six churches, and by the Hillside Community Food Bank, and by M.C Foods in North Brunswick, NJ. The Pantry is volunteer run. Volunteers come from the churches in the Spotswood area. Operation of the pantry requires 24 volunteers per week, scheduled on a rotating basis. Presently there are 48 volunteers. The Pantry has no paid staff.
