Silver Impact, Inc. supports recovery from mental illness each day, at the Drop-In Center through intellectually stimulating and emotionally engaging programs. The goal of each program is to reduce isolation and promote independence, overall functioning and a sense of well-being. Members of the Drop-In Center participate in intergenerational programs and in community events throughout Broward County. A computer lab with individual instruction is available throughout hours of operation. Transportation to and from the Drop-In Center is provided. Broward Meals-On-Wheels provides lunch to eligible members. All direct service staff are Peer Specialists who are in recovery. In addition, the Drop-In Center collaborates with AARP, Impact Broward, Work Force One, recreational therapists and occupational therapy students to provide a diverse team to serve the needs of all members. This office offers Emergency Home Energy Assistance for the Elderly (EHEAP), helping low-income households with at least one person aged 60 and over when households experience a home energy emergency. A home energy emergency may result from a late utility bill, lack of fuel or wood, or receipt of a shut-off notice. The payments are intended for the heating or cooling of houses and other emerging energy costs during the heating season (October-March) and cooling (April-September). Eligible households may be granted one benefit per season, up to $600 per season. Program beneficiaries can receive vouchers to buy blankets, portable heaters, and fans. The program can also help to pay for the repair of the existing heating or cooling equipment or for reconnection.
