McDuffie County Leisure Service began in 1977 as the McDuffie County Council On Aging, Inc. as a nutrition site in the Community Room of the Housing Authority and later moved to the old Coca-Cola Bottling Plant and was commonly known as the Senior Citizens Center. It was and is the general consensus that we have NO OLD PEOPLE, but rather a group of people who have witnessed the changing dates on a calendar, and are still very much alive. Independent, quality living for anyone 55 and older by providing a safe and caring environment where people can make new friends, enjoy old friends, and share happy moments as well as stressful concerns with their peers is encouraged. In addition, Monday through Friday each week they are served a hot meal in a congregate setting and hot meals are also delivered to those who are homebound. A variety of recreational activities are provided throughout the year as well as is counseling to individuals and families as needed and assistance with filing of insurances and taxes as needed.
