When they were founded in 1984, OASIS was an acronym for Orcutt Area Seniors In Service, Inc., an organization founded by seniors to serve seniors in northern Santa Barbara County. They run a large part of their programs and activities from the Luis OASIS Senior Center. Thereafter, they dropped the longer name and just referred to themselves as OASIS. But their work remains the same: serving seniors and improving conditions in their society in general for seniors to thrive. Their membership exceeds 1,000 and continues to grow, and their members include people of all ages. They continuously serve more than 5,000 people.
